10+ years of tutoring/teaching experience
B.S. in Mathematics from Tennessee Tech University
M.A. in Mathematics from the University of Virginia
Passed PhD qualifying exams in Algebra and Analysis
I graduated summa cum laude from Tennessee Tech University with a bachelor's of science degree in mathematics, and I hold a master's degree in mathematics from the University of Virginia. I currently teach high school math in Tampa, FL.
I have taught and/or tutored mathematics for 10+ years, starting as a volunteer math tutor in a college algebra lab at my undergraduate university. In graduate school, I tutored college students one-on-one in calculus, probability, differential equations, and real analysis. Additionally, I worked as a teaching assistant for a course in multivariable mathematics and taught calculus. This was the time when I realized I had a passion for teaching. I had always loved math, but I found that teaching it can be even more rewarding, and it gives me an excuse to revisit some of the most beautiful and foundational ideas in mathematics. I have taught high school math at all grade levels, including Algebra 1, Algebra 2, Geometry, and AP Calculus (AB and BC).
My tutoring style, like my teaching style, is Socratic-I ask a lot of questions! This helps me see where the student is at in their understanding and to gently guide them toward solutions and grasping concepts. I emphasize the mechanics of doing math as well as understanding big ideas and communicating strategies.
I encourage you to send me the curriculum resources you are utilizing or would like to work with so that I can be of as much support as possible. I have a variety of materials that we can use that I also use in my classes.
Feel free to message me with inquiries. I am thrilled to help you take your math game to the next level!
